The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures provides students a program with international skills that enhance their opportunities to work in business or health care, government or law, in library science, arts, diplomacy or the military, and in publishing, communication or tourism. Students acquire the foundation that enables them to pursue linguistic, pedagogical or literary studies in graduate school, or to teach foreign languages on the secondary level. Classes are small, allowing for individualized instruction. Each student is advised by a faculty member in the department to insure preparation for employment following graduation.

Honor Programs
The departmental Honors Program is open to any qualified majors in French, German, and Spanish who have an overall grade average of 3.2 or higher and a 3.5 or higher in their major courses, and who have the commitment and dedication to undertake independent work. Those interested in the Honors Program should contact the advisor for their major language.

MIFLC Review
The department also publishes the MIFLC Review since 1991, a distinguished journal in the field of criticism and theory. Published articles are a selection of the best papers presented at Mountain Intestate Foreign Language Conference.

Sampere-Leonor Ulloa Scholarship
MIFLC Conference is also pleased to participate in the Sampere-Leonor Ulloa Scholarship, a scholarship program honoring our Dalton Distinguished Professor Leonor Alvarez de Ulloa, founder of MIFLC Review, and presently the Editor-in-Chief of this review.
